The complete realization of a compressor hall and a transformer station

Nitrogen plant Gasunie

In the Netherlands we are used to using natural gas of a certain composition. How do we get such gas if the tap in Groningen is finally closed? The nitrogen installation at Zuidbroek is an indispensable piece in this puzzle. gas extraction in groningen will go down considerably because of this installation.
  • 180 000 M3 nitrogen per hour
  • 10 B Converting high- caloriffic gas to low- callorific gas
  • 25 % Replacement of annual domestic gas consumption
To bring gas extraction in Groningen to zero as quickly as possible, the expansion of the nitrogen plant, of Gasunie, near Zuidbroek is necessary. Due to the expansion, a reduction of approximately 7 billion m3 of Groningen gas per year can be achieved. That is more than 25% of the domestic consumption of low-calorific gas in 2017. By mixing nitrogen with (imported) high-calorific gas, pseudo-Groningen gas can be produced that is suitable for household central heating and cooking equipment.

In order to put this solution into practice on a large scale, it was decided in 2018 to build a nitrogen installation at Zuidbroek. This location was chosen because many gas transport pipelines converge here, making transport to and from Zuidbroek an obvious choice.

We build the heart of the installation – the factory where we extract the nitrogen from the air

One of the imported gas streams is natural gas which is available as LNG, liquefied natural gas, arrives at an LNG terminal in Eemshaven. Gas also comes via pipelines from, for example, Norway. This installation is located on the site of approximately 12 hectares. The installation will soon be able to extract 180,000 m3 of nitrogen per hour from the outside air and mix it with natural gas to the desired quality. This capacity is more than 10 times larger than the existing nitrogen installation in Zuidbroek.

The activities mainly consist on:

Multi-D works;

    sandwich panels
  • Construction of sewage and fire water pipes
  • Laying underground cooling water pipes (ø1100mm)
  • Full site facilities
  • Assembly of all structural steel, static and rotating equipment, pipes and pipe supports
  • Module installation and implementation of tie-ins
  • Pipes and Pipes Supporting Field and Shop Fabrication
  • Non-destructive testing
